WCQI Charlotte, 1 to 3 May 2017

This was the 71st annual conference of ASQ and for QS Consult some kind of jubilee as it was the 20th consecutive conference that we attended. It is always special if you present yourself, but we report on this in a separate post on this website.
A conference is often judged based on its keynote speakers. This year they almost all spoke about digitization but from different angles of view. Interestingly, this was not just a positive story. They also mentioned less pleasant side effects, like a decrease of empathy and increasing stress. Also the fact that technology can replace more and more people, even highly educated, was discussed. This societal challenge deserves more general attention than we are currently giving it.
In the parallel sessions as usual many different topics with still a lot of attention to the ISO 9001: 2015 version and for Lean Six Sigma. Interestingly there were also many presentations about sustainability and social responsibility.
But the most important thing remains, of course, the yearly meeting with friends from all over the world during the various networking possibilities. Already looking forward to Seattle 2018.
